Willemijn E. Povel

Willemijn Povel is capable of working more or less anywhere in the field of personal and family law. She is reliable, deeply involved with her cases, and has outstanding analytic abilities. Due to her experience, gained in the law profession and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, Willemijn has developed herself into a committed lawyer who is driven to accomplish the best results for her clients and she consequently has an affinity with (international) divorces.

Willemijn studied Law at VU University Amsterdam, where she wrote her Bachelor’s thesis on the subject of family law. She also studied at Uppsala University in Sweden and completed her Master’s degree in International Law at the University of Amsterdam. During her Master’s degree Willemijn took various additional courses in the area of family law and international private law, which further deepened her knowledge in this field.

Before joining SmeetsGijbels, Willemijn worked at a firm of lawyers specialising in migration law. She represented many Dutch citizens living abroad, and many foreigners residing in the Netherlands.

Willemijn is a candidate-member of the ‘Vereniging van Internationale Kinderontvoeringsadvocaten’ (D.I.A.L.). She advises and litigates in cross-border cases in which children are involved.
